Every October, our family, friends, and community come together to honour the life and kindness of Justice Chester in a simple but meaningful way: helping others.
What began as a way to remember Justice has grown into a community tradition that continues to make a tangible difference in the lives of vulnerable people throughout Winnipeg. Through our annual Socktober for Justice campaign, thousands of pairs of socks and other essential items have been donated to support individuals experiencing homelessness and hardship during the coldest months of the year.
Socks may seem like a small thing, but they are one of the most needed items for people living on the streets or facing housing insecurity. Clean, dry socks help prevent infections, improve comfort, and provide a sense of dignity during Manitoba's harsh winter season.
This year, we're challenging our community to do even more.
Our Goal: 5,000 Pairs
In 2025, thanks to the incredible generosity of friends, families, schools, businesses, and community organizations, we collected more than 4,000 pairs of socks in Justice's memory.
For 2026, we're setting our sights on a new milestone:

How You Can Help
There are many ways to participate in Socktober for Justice:
Donate New Socks
A single pair can make a difference. Whether you donate one pair or one hundred pairs, every contribution matters.
Host a School Drive
Justice's legacy continues through young people who choose kindness and community involvement. Schools can hold classroom competitions, collection drives, or spirit days to support the campaign.
Organize a Workplace Collection
Businesses and workplaces can help by placing collection boxes in lunchrooms, offices, and reception areas throughout October.
Become a Community Drop-Off Location
Local businesses, community centres, and organizations can amplify the campaign by serving as collection points.
Share the Challenge
Help spread the word online using:

Why We Do This
Justice had a way of bringing people together. His kindness, sense of humour, creativity, and compassion left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
While we miss him every day, we continue to see his impact through the acts of kindness carried out in his memory.
Every pair of socks donated represents something bigger than a donation.
It represents community.
It represents compassion.
It represents the belief that small acts of kindness can create meaningful change.
Most importantly, it reminds us that Justice's legacy lives on through the people who continue to help others.
